After learning about these mindsets (a lot came from amazing self-development books, which you can read all about here), I can tell you that I’ve never seen life the same way again.

Outcomes that I felt NEEDED to happen in my life in order for me to be happy, aren’t as important anymore, as I’m realizing true happiness comes from within. Nothing external has the power to make us feel a certain way (as much as it can seem like it! Which is why these mindset shifts are crucial!)

After learning about these mindset shifts, you’re going to see life in a new way. If you’re ready to feel inspired, empowered, and to take back your power, then read on!

5 mindset shifts that changed my life

Mindset shift #1: We are a soul in a body, not a body with a soul

The first mindset shift that changed my life is that we are a soul in a body, rather than a body with a soul.

This one may be slightly more of a personal opinion rather than an actual hard fact, but I’m going to explain to you why I believe this to be the case (and BTW, I’m all about you believing in what makes you feel your best! Regardless of what that is! That’s the main reason I choose to believe this - because it makes me feel as though there is a purpose to all of the challenges in life - more on this to come later in this post).

I’m going to list a couple resources that have made me come to the point in believing that we are a soul in a physical body, here for a temporary experience, rather than a body with a soul, and life being the end-all-be-all.

The first one is the book "Between Death and Life" by Dolores Cannon. Dolores uses hypnosis to put her subjects (people) in a subconscious state to access their subconscious mind. Dolores has many more books - this is just the one that I’m currently reading. She will question her subjects on past lives, why they came to earth, the afterlife, etc. This is a super interesting read if you believe in the afterlife!




The second resource is a netflix series called "Surviving Death", in particular, the last episode. This starts off as the story of a young child who is able to recall a ton of information about past events and people. This child shares information that would almost be impossible to know, unless he had lived a past life. The accuracy and detail of the information he knows is almost scary. Definitely a good watch as well if you believe in (or are open to) the afterlife.

I will say that I’ve kind of always believed in the afterlife. The main reason being is that it gives a sense purpose to the challenges that we go through in our life, in the sense that we came to experience certain lessons.

From my understanding, we are souls who decided to come to earth to have certain experiences. To learn lessons, to grow, and have fun.

Mindset shift #2: You never know what someone has been through

The second mindset shift that changed my life is that you never know what someone has been through.

There is absolutely no way of knowing what someone is going through internally.

Yes, we may have witnessed certain things they’ve been through, or maybe they’ve expressed how they feel, however we have no absolute way of knowing what they are going through internally.

This mindset is a great one to remember the next time you’re upset with someone - if you feel as though someone did something to you that was not fair, that you did not deserve.




Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that this is an excuse to stay in situations where you’re getting treated poorly! It is instead something to remind yourself of your own peace of mind - if you’re having a challenging time moving through certain emotions of past events where you feel as though you’ve been mistreated. 

Mindset shift #3: This moment is the only one that exists, that ever did exist, and that ever will exist

The third mindset shift that changed my life is this moment is the only one that exists, that ever did exist, and that ever will exist.

Think about it - the past was once the present moment, and the future will also be the present moment when it comes.

In other words, life is just one big, eternal, present moment.

However, with the concept of time, we can tend to forget this! We place so much importance on our past, so much importance on our future, that we forget to enjoy the moment that is right in front of us.

I think a balance is what’s important here, as I do think there’s a lot we can learn from our past, and that by keeping our future in mind, we can make decisions today that will set us up for growth.

However, if we’re always preoccupied with thoughts of the past and future (which were/will be the present moment), we’re missing the point. We’re caught up in “present moments” that have either passed, or that will come, but we forget the one we’re in right now. The moment we’re in right now is the only “real” moment - the past/future only exists in our head. As the saying goes, the present moment is called the present moment because it’s a gift (a present!)




The key here that by focusing on the moment of now, we can enjoy more of what life has to offer us. When we’re living in the past/future, we’re only living in our head! And I think we can all agree that life has so much more to offer than that!

Mindset shift #4: You just want it for the feeling, so take it off the pedestal, and feel the feelings now

The fourth mindset shift that changed my life is that you just want it for the feeling, so take it off the pedestal, and feel the feelings now.

Spoiler alert: the things you want in your life, the people you want in your life, and everything else you want in your life - you only want them for the feeling that it will give you.

Dig deep down on why it is that you want something, it will be for a certain feeling/emotion that you believe it will give you.

The thing is, if it’s only for a certain feeling/emotion that it will give us, why wait for it to happen in our life? Why not feel the feeling now?

You see, we believe that external things dictate how we feel, but that’s simply not true. The same event/situation can happen to two different people, and they will each react differently. It’s not the event itself that causes us to feel a certain way, but rather how we interpret the event that causes us to feel a certain way.

So take whatever it is that you want off the “pedestal”, because the only reason you want it is for a feeling (which you can generate right here, right now!)




And, when you take them off a pedestal, you remove the energetic distance between the two of you. If you act and feel as though someone or something is on a pedestal, they will remain on a pedestal (aka unachievable and unattainable). But when you take it off the pedestal, and your energy is on the same frequency, it is much more likely to come into your life!

Mindset shift #5: You are probably much closer than you think

The fifth mindset that changed my life is that you are probably much closer than you think.

I think the above picture speak for itself.

We can tend to think that just because we don’t see physical evidence of progress in our lives, that no progress has been made.

But how do we know that tomorrow isn’t going to be the day that everything changes.

Another misconception is that big changes happen over time, but this doesn’t always need to be the case. Big changes can happen in very short periods of time as well! And how do you know that something big isn’t coming up for you that will completely change your life? That things have already started re-arranging for you in ways you can’t see just yet.
